Lincoln High School is located near 18th & Vine Kansas City, MO. It was established in 1867 as a grade school in a building rented for the Second Congregation Church. It was the first school for black children on the Missouri side of the city. The first building was at 19th and Tracy streets until 1927, the Board of Education purchased the site at Woodland Avenue to become the new high school. The new building opened in September 1936 and was nicknamed "The Castle on the Hill." Lincoln High School still serves the community every day. The photo shows the new high school building on 21st Street and Woodland Avenue.
